Introducing an exciting new product, Bakels Chakalaka Full Mix!  A proudly South African taste with a difference, yum!! 

Chakalaka is a South African vegetable relish usually spicy, that is traditionally served with bread, pap, samp, stews or curries. There are quite a few variations on how to make Chakalaka which often depend on the region or family traditions.

South Bakels took on the challenge to use this staple South African flavour to create our New Bakels Chakalaka bread mix which can be used to create a variety of breads. From Chakalaka Speciality Bread to Chakalaka Focaccia, Chakalaka Potbrood to a Chakalaka Pizza! 

Before baking add the following to your Chakalaka Full mix:

Chakalaka Speciality Bread:
Add 30g Chakalaka filling inside the dough. Once dough is closed cut open on top and add 30g Chakalaka filling and sprinkle 30g Cheddar cheese over the filling. 

Chakalaka Focaccia:
Add 60g Chakalaka filling on top and sprinkle 30g Cheddar cheese over the filling.

Chakalaka Potbrood:
Add 50g Chakalaka filling on top and sprinkle 30g Cheddar cheese over the filling.
 

Chakalaka Pizza:
Add 1200g Chakalaka filling on top and sprinkle 400g Cheddar cheese over the filling (Baking pan size 80cm x 46cm).

Fun Fact: Chakalaka is known as a salad in Soweto, others term it a spicy vegetable relish.
